Flu Vaccinations 2020

Flu Vaccines for 2020

We are having to work differently at the moment in order to protect our patients and our staff from the risks of Covid19 and this has created a particular problem for the Flu vaccination programme this year. We are expected to vaccinate a very large number of patients in a short space of time whilst maintaining social distancing and keeping everyone safe.

For this reason we are unable to offer the ‘open access’ style clinics which usually work so well here at the Health Centre. Instead, we have developed separate flu clinics in a number of locations with appointment slots allocated on an ‘invitation only’ basis. Eligible patients will be allocated a 20min appointment window either here at the Health Centre or at one of our satellite clinics and letters will be sent to all eligible patients with details of their allocated slot. The 20min window will enable cars to arrive, vaccines to be administered and cars to leave before the next cohort arrives. If you are able to walk to your designated location this will help the process immensely. Please bring your letter with you – this will speed up the process for everyone. If you are unable to attend at the time allocated please contact local pharmacies who may be able to offer you a more convenient appointment.

Please note that people in the 50-64-year old age group who do not fall into one of the eligible groups listed below will not be vaccinated until November and December, and no appointments will be offered for this age group until then. This is to ensure that those who are most at risk are vaccinated first and that there is sufficient vaccine for the most vulnerable patients.

Ladies who are pregnant will be vaccinated by their midwife.

Children of school age will be vaccinated as part of the school programme.

Children aged 2-3 will be vaccinated at the Health Centre by appointment and letters will be sent to parents as soon as details of this process are available.
