Dr Dykins Retirement Message

Dr Roger Dykins

It is with a heavy heart that I would like to inform you that I am retiring from General Practice in December, earlier than I had planned to, due to ongoing physical health problems having been a partner at Corbridge for 30 years.

It has been a privilege to get to know so many people and have the opportunity to help where I could and be part of what I believe (and backed by your feedback) has been one of the best examples of General Practice in the country. We still adhere to a traditional model of General Practice where we strive to provide helpful, friendly, knowledgeable staff and continuity of care with a highly skilled GP or practice nurse. We have been blessed over the years to have been able to recruit new doctors and staff who have the same ethos and drive to provide the best care possible. I am completely confident that the practice will continue to strive to do so in the future.

I have spent quite a lot of my career resisting pressure to make what we felt were damaging changes to General Practice in the UK and have had to be innovative and prioritise quality over profit to continue to provide a service that we felt was professionally satisfying be a part of.  The new NHS 10 year plan puts traditional GP practices like Corbridge under considerable threat in the coming years. We will be fighting those changes to try to keep the range and quality of services we provide to you complete and available in Corbridge, so please continue to give your feedback to the practice as it provides evidence of the service you receive as patients.

It has been a genuine pleasure to spend my career at Corbridge Health Centre and I thank those of you with whom I have consulted for allowing me to have that privilege.

I wish you all the very best for the future.
