Vaccinations

Childhood immunisations are arranged by appointment only, on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am to 11:00am. Appointments for these will be sent to you by our Clinical Administrator, Shauna Hardy either by letter or via a text booking link.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccinations. We run a series of clinics each Autumn for Winter flu vaccinations and eligible patients will be sent a booking link by text. Those without mobile telephones can simply ring reception after 1st September each year to book into one of the clinics. The categories of eligible patients can change from year to year so we will place a recorded message on our telephone system where patients can check for information by selecting one of the options on our auto-attendant.

Pneumococcal vaccinations are available to all patients aged 65 and over and those with long term conditions such as asthma or diabetes. For most patients a single vaccination will last a lifetime but , for those with weakened immune systems, a vaccine can be given every 5 years. These can be booked at any time of year with our practice nurses and we will run a catch-up clinic from time to time to ensure eligible patients are encouraged to have the vaccine.

Shingles. Patients aged between 70 and 79 are eligible for Shingles vaccination. This is a course of two vaccines given 6months apart. Patients aged over 50 with weakened immune systems and those who had their 65th birthday after 1st September 2023 are also eligible. Patients who were already 65 on 1st September 2023 will become eligible when they reach 70.

Travel Health Advice can no longer be provided by our Practice Nurses because this is a private service which is not covered by NHS indemnity arrangements (these changed on 1st April 2019). If you are planning a trip abroad we can provide contact details for other local travel clinics who will help you with your enquiry. Please ensure that you plan well ahead of time for any travel vaccinations you may need. Some vaccines can be given on the NHS and your travel clinic will advise you about whether they can be given here.

COVID vaccinations are not provided in local GP surgeries, instead these are given by a team of vaccinators who have been employed specifically for this purpose on behalf of all the practices in our Primary Care Network. Arrangements for booking these will be published through the alerts on our home page when appropriate.
